FruChocs find further stardom in South Australian Food Industry Awards

Famous South Australian family food business Robern Menz has won three top accolades in the 2013 South Australian Food Industry Awards at a gala dinner celebrating the industry’s achievements hosted by Food SA and PIRSA.

Robern Menz was inducted into the San Remo Hall of Fame for their passion, commitment and leadership in enhancing the position and profile of the SA food industry.

They also won the new Buy SA Consumer Award, while Chief Executive Officer Philip Sims was recognised for his contribution to industry with the Bickford’s Australia Leader Award.

Guests enjoyed a four-course menu featuring the awards finalists’ produce at the Adelaide Convention Centre last night to celebrate the announcement of the 2013 winners.

Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Minister Gail Gago said quality products from South Australia’s aquaculture, fisheries, grain, horticulture and livestock industries are great advertisements for our state.

“The leadership, innovation, sustainability and manufacturing best practice shown by this year’s award winners is spectacular, and speaks volumes for what we can achieve here,” Ms Gago said.

“The SA Food Industry Awards strongly align with the State Government’s Premium Food and Wine from our Clean Environment strategic priority, and recognise the significant contribution to South Australia’s economy made by our local food industry.”

Food SA CEO Catherine Barnett said the winners came from a great cross section from South Australia’s food sector.

“It is fantastic to see businesses of all sizes represented in this year’s group of winners. The industry as a whole works hard to maintain strength and diversity in our sector,” Ms Barnett said.

“The Food Awards continue to acknowledge excellence in South Australia’s food industry, which is worth over $14 billion to the State’s economy.”

Winners in other categories include Bickford’s, Gelista Premium Gelati, Lifestyle Bakery, Kytons Bakery, Savannah Lamb, Wintulichs, AgriExchange, and Macro Meats Gourmet Game. Two winners – Rohde’s Free Range Eggs and SA Mushrooms – were first time applicants.
